In addition to the principal amount, the court directed the defendant to pay Dh10,000 in civil compensation to the plaintiff for material and financial losses suffered due to her prolonged delay in returning the funds, as well as covering all associated legal fees and court expenses.
According to official case documents, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit requesting the recovery of Dh225,000 along with Dh20,000 in moral and material damages. The claimant stated that he had provided the sum in two separate bank transfers after the woman approached him requesting urgent assistance to resolve acute financial difficulties, promising to return the money once her circumstances stabilized. However, despite multiple formal requests, she failed to honor the verbal agreement.
To substantiate his suit, the plaintiff submitted legal documentation including bank account statements verifying the transactions and exported WhatsApp chat logs wherein the woman explicitly acknowledged receiving the funds as a loan and pledged repayment.
In its final verdict, the court affirmed that under UAE civil law, digital records and electronic communications—including verified messaging applications—hold legally binding weight as evidentiary proof.
