The UAE Ministry of Interior (MOI), in collaboration with the Federal Traffic Council and regional police forces, has officially launched its annual “Accident-Free Day” road safety campaign, offering eligible drivers across the country a four-point reduction on their traffic black points.

Timed to coincide with the start of the 2026–2027 academic year on August 31, the nationwide initiative aims to curtail road casualties, ease peak back-to-school traffic congestion, and promote responsible driving habits near school zones. Official registration opened on August 17 via digital links published across the Ministry’s official channels.

To qualify for the four-point deduction, motorists must register using their Emirates ID, sign an online safety commitment, and maintain a completely violation-free and accident-free driving record throughout August 31. Traffic authorities emphasized that participants must strictly adhere to core safety guidelines, including obeying speed limits, refraining from mobile phone use while driving, keeping safe following distances, and yielding to pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and head of the campaign, highlighted that achieving maximum road safety requires joint commitment from all drivers. He noted that while the financial and point-deduction incentives drive initial participation, the ultimate objective is converting single-day compliance into permanent driving habits.

Motorists who successfully fulfill all campaign criteria will have four black points automatically deducted from their traffic profiles on September 25. Traffic officials reminded motorists that accumulating 24 black points leads to immediate driver’s licence suspension, making seasonal safety initiatives a crucial opportunity for drivers to clear their driving records.

Methods to Remove Black Points from a UAE Licence:

  • Accident-Free Day Pledge (Free): Sign the online safety pledge via the MOI platform starting August 17 and maintain zero violations or accidents on August 31. Successful compliance automatically deducts 4 points by September 25.
  • Approved Driver Training Courses (Paid): Register for a driver rehabilitation course through Dubai Police, the RTA, or Abu Dhabi’s TAMM platform. Completing the program removes up to 8 black points for a fee of approximately AED 200–AED 400.
  • Transferring Wrongly Issued Points: Log in to the relevant emirate police app or portal to reassign black points to another driver if the violation occurred while someone else was legally operating your vehicle.
  • Automatic Expiry: Maintain a clean driving record below the 24-point threshold; individual black points automatically clear 12 months from the exact date of the violation.
