The UAE played a leading role in supporting the multinational initiative, reinforcing its commitment to international environmental protection and efforts to combat organised crime affecting critical ecosystems. Authorities noted that protecting forests such as the Amazon is essential not only for regional biodiversity but also for global climate resilience.
The Amazon Basin spans several South American countries and contains the world’s largest tropical rainforest, making it one of the planet’s most important ecological regions. Illegal logging, unauthorised mining and wildlife trafficking continue to pose major threats despite increased enforcement efforts by national governments and international organisations.
Officials involved in Green Shield 2026 said the operation demonstrates the value of cross-border collaboration in addressing complex environmental crimes. They added that participating agencies will continue sharing intelligence and conducting joint operations to strengthen enforcement, protect vulnerable ecosystems and hold criminal organisations accountable.
