Dubai: Retail sector officials and experts say UAE markets have emerged stronger from the challenges witnessed across the region during the first half of 2026, with government support and proactive industry measures helping transform disruptions into opportunities that improved supply resilience, product availability and consumer confidence.
Industry executives said retailers enhanced preparedness by expanding supply sources, increasing reliance on local farms and food manufacturers, strengthening inventories and accelerating restocking operations, while consumers benefited from greater product variety and competitive promotions.

Mohammed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, said supportive government policies and the swift response of retail institutions enabled the sector to efficiently manage regional developments and emerge better prepared for future challenges.
He said one of the most significant outcomes was the expansion of partnerships with local farms, helping increase the availability of locally produced goods.
Al Hashemi added that consumers are now benefiting from a wider range of alternatives and price options, citing the availability of more than six varieties of onions at different price points as an example of increased product diversity.
He also highlighted greater diversification of supply routes by sea, land and air, which strengthened supply chains, improved warehouse efficiency and ensured rapid shelf replenishment.
According to Al Hashemi, growing consumer awareness also contributed to market stability, with many households avoiding unnecessary stockpiling and purchasing according to actual needs.

Al Bahr added that increased competition among retailers has resulted in more attractive promotions and discounts, while consumers have become more conscious of responsible purchasing behaviour.
He noted that the sector demonstrated its resilience during regional developments, maintaining healthy inventory levels and full shelves at a time when some international markets experienced shortages and supply disruptions.
According to industry officials, a combination of diversified sourcing, stronger local production, enhanced logistics capabilities and informed consumer behaviour has helped reinforce the UAE retail sector’s ability to respond effectively to changing regional and global conditions.
