Rescuers have found seven climbers after a massive avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak, while a Pakistani adventurer remains missing as search operations continue in the Karakoram Mountains. The sighting raised hopes that more survivors might be found despite harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain.

The world’s 12th-highest mountain at 8,047 metres, following an international climbing expedition, the avalanche swooped across the route between higher camps on Broad Peak. For searching those affected, unstable, and poor visibility snow conditions which slowed the operation, authorities are using drones, aerial surveillance and ground rescue teams.

According to officials, preliminary drone footage identified seven individuals on the mountain. However, rescue teams have not yet confirmed their identities or medical condition. The missing Pakistani climber is among those still being sought, with emergency responders continuing efforts whenever weather conditions permit.

The avalanche involved a multinational group of mountaineers attempting to climb Broad Peak during the summer expedition season. Authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities, while several other climbers remain missing. Rescue efforts have been complicated by the mountain’s extreme altitude, avalanche risk and limited helicopter access in the remote region.

Broad Peak, located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region near K2, is regarded as one of the world’s most challenging 8,000-metre peaks. Its steep slopes, unpredictable weather and avalanche-prone terrain have contributed to numerous fatal accidents over the years, making rescue missions particularly hazardous.

Officials from the Alpine Club of Pakistan and emergency agencies said the search will continue as long as conditions remain safe for rescue personnel. Families of the missing climbers are awaiting further updates, while authorities work to verify the status of those spotted on the mountain and determine whether additional survivors can be reached.
