UAE Press Release

The United Arab Emirates is leading an operation to stop people from hurting the environment in the Amazon Basin. This operation has already been done. Taken more than 280 million dollars in illegal assets. This is one of the times that many countries have worked together to stop environmental crimes in this area. The Amazon Basin is an important place, and the United Arab Emirates is doing a lot to help protect it from environmental crimes.

The Green Shield 2026 operation is a team effort. It got law enforcement agencies and environmental authorities and international partners all working together. They are trying to stop things like people cutting down trees illegally trafficking animals and mining in secret.

These things are really bad for the Amazon ecosystem. People, in charge say that Green Shield 2026 shows that countries are working together more and more to fight crimes. These crimes make a lot of money illegally. They also hurt the environment really badly in the long run. The Green Shield 2026 operation is important because it is trying to stop these crimes.

According to authorities, the operation led to the confiscation of assets valued at more than $280 million, alongside multiple arrests, inspections and enforcement actions carried out across several countries within the Amazon Basin. Investigators also seized illegally harvested timber, mining equipment, wildlife products and other materials linked to organised criminal networks.

Officials said environmental crime has become one of the world’s fastest-growing forms of transnational organised crime, with illegal exploitation of natural resources contributing to biodiversity loss, deforestation and climate-related challenges. Green Shield 2026 was designed to disrupt these criminal networks while strengthening cooperation among participating countries through intelligence sharing and coordinated field operations.

The UAE played a leading role in supporting the multinational initiative, reinforcing its commitment to international environmental protection and efforts to combat organised crime affecting critical ecosystems. Authorities noted that protecting forests such as the Amazon is essential not only for regional biodiversity but also for global climate resilience.

The Amazon Basin spans several South American countries and contains the world’s largest tropical rainforest, making it one of the planet’s most important ecological regions. Illegal logging, unauthorised mining and wildlife trafficking continue to pose major threats despite increased enforcement efforts by national governments and international organisations.

Officials involved in Green Shield 2026 said the operation demonstrates the value of cross-border collaboration in addressing complex environmental crimes. They added that participating agencies will continue sharing intelligence and conducting joint operations to strengthen enforcement, protect vulnerable ecosystems and hold criminal organisations accountable.
