Mona Ghanem Al Marri announced the revival. Mona Ghanem Al Marri is Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and President of the Dubai Press Club.
She spoke about this at the media summit. From now on the Dubai International Film Festival will be part of Dubai Media. This means the Dubai International Film Festival will join the emirates media and entertainment group.
The relaunch comes twenty years after the Dubai International Film Festival first started in 2004. Then the goal was simple: to make Dubai a launchpad that links Arab cinema with audiences around the world.
The Dubai International Film Festival also wanted to bring filmmakers, industry people and cultures from, over the world together on one stage. I remember reading about that ambition.
During its original 14-year run, the festival grew into one of the region’s most significant cinema platforms, according to Al Marri, creating opportunities for hundreds of Arab filmmakers, actors and productions to gain international visibility.
It also played a key role in cementing Dubai and the wider UAE as a recognised name on the global film industry map, she added.
The announcement signals renewed momentum for Dubai’s cultural and creative sector, which has increasingly positioned itself as a regional hub for media, entertainment and content production in recent years.
Bringing the festival back under Dubai Media’s structure suggests a more integrated approach, linking the event to the emirate’s wider ambitions in broadcasting, journalism and the creative economy.
No further details have yet been released regarding the festival’s programming, venue, or submission process for the 2027 edition.
