The train takes 105 minutes to travel between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour

Abu Dhabi: The first passenger service on the Etihad Rail network arrived in Abu Dhabi today, in a step that constitutes a qualitative leap in the national transport system in the UAE.

The first train departed from Fujairah Station and arrived at Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, amid a festive atmosphere that underscored the significance of this historic event. Jubilant passengers expressed their pride in being on the first train and said it provided them with a modern mobility experience that combines speed, comfort and reliability.

The opening of the service marks the beginning of a new phase in the growth of the national rail network. Passenger transport services will expand from September 30 to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah. It will then extend to Al Dhafra regional stations in December 2026 and Sharjah in March 2027.

Etihad Rail was established in 2009 to develop and operate the national rail network, which extends over 900 kilometres and connects cities, ports and industrial hubs across the country. It is part of the ‘Fifty Projects’, contributing to supporting economic diversification and sustainable development, enhancing the efficiency of supply chains and reducing carbon emissions.

The train takes 105 minutes to travel between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour, and can accommodate up to 400 passengers per trip, with the total number of passengers expected to reach around 10 million passengers per year when the network is fully operational.

The service offers two classes of travel, ‘Comfort Class’ and ‘Premium Class’, with benefits including reserved seats, free Wi-Fi, device charging ports, luggage space, and multiple ticket options to suit the needs of different passengers, while the introductory fares for the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route start from AED 55 for Comfort Class and AED 120 for Premium Class.
