Session to explore predictive technologies to improve early crisis response and preparedness
Abu Dhabi: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes Affairs, the Office of Development Affairs at the Presidential Court has announced it will host a dialogue on strengthening anticipatory humanitarian action.
The session will take place on Tuesday at the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi and will bring together international experts in humanitarian affairs and artificial intelligence.
Focus on predictive capabilities
The dialogue forms part of an initiative aimed at addressing the gap between predicting humanitarian crises and enabling early action. Discussions will examine the role of predictive analytics and artificial intelligence in improving readiness and response within the global humanitarian system.
Participants will explore how technology can support the transition from risk forecasting to timely and practical intervention.
Supporting future strategy
The session is being held alongside a feasibility study on strengthening anticipatory humanitarian action. It seeks to deliver several outcomes, including identifying gaps in current forecasting and early warning systems, defining the UAE’s potential role, and providing strategic input for future steps.
It will also lay the groundwork for continued collaboration and knowledge exchange among humanitarian organisations and partners.
Addressing global challenges
Dr Tareq Al Ameri, Director of the Office of Development Affairs, said the global humanitarian system is under increasing pressure due to funding constraints, declining donor contributions and growing needs.
He noted that advances in artificial intelligence have introduced new tools for predicting risks and disasters, offering opportunities to improve preparedness.
The dialogue aims to support deeper discussion on the strategic, technical, operational and governance aspects of humanitarian forecasting and assess its value for global response efforts.
Expected outcomes
The session is expected to produce key recommendations and insights to support the feasibility study, as well as a white paper outlining the strategic case and potential impact of enhanced forecasting capabilities in humanitarian action.
Officials said the initiative reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its role in humanitarian support and contribute to global approaches that enable early and effective responses to crises.
Humanitarian legacy
The initiative also builds on the UAE’s humanitarian legacy established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continues under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan through initiatives that combine humanitarian values, international cooperation and modern technology.
