TVs, speakers and projectors lead surge in demand as retailers ramp up promotions during tournament
Dubai: The FIFA World Cup has given a significant boost to electronics sales in the UAE, with industry experts and retailers reporting sales growth of more than 30% compared to normal periods before the tournament.
Retail executives said the World Cup stimulated demand for a wide range of electronic devices while intensifying competition among retailers, prompting many stores to launch promotional campaigns to attract customers and increase market share.
Television screens, speakers and projectors recorded the strongest demand, followed by headphones, tablets and smartphones.
Strong demand for entertainment devices
Mohammed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, said the recent period witnessed strong consumer demand for electronic products, including televisions, smartphones and tablets.
He attributed the increase to consumers purchasing devices to follow World Cup matches, buy gifts for family and friends, and take advantage of promotional offers available during the tournament.
Mohammed Malik, sales manager at an electronics retail chain, said demand for televisions, speakers and projectors rose significantly during the World Cup, with these products accounting for the largest share of sales.
He noted that sales growth exceeded 30% compared to the period before the tournament and said increased demand had intensified competition among retailers, leading to more promotional offers and discounts.
Retailers compete for market share
Ashish Punjabi, Chief Operating Officer of Jacky’s Electronics Group, said the World Cup boosted demand across the electronics sector, particularly for televisions, speakers and projectors.
He said sales of these products increased by more than 30% compared with normal trading periods, supported by heightened competition among retailers seeking to benefit from the tournament’s momentum.
Shahid Harivash, a sales manager at an electronics store, said the tournament generated strong demand for televisions, projectors, speakers, headphones and tablets, particularly as retailers launched special promotions linked to the event.
He added that the increase in sales was not limited to individual consumers, but also extended to the hospitality sector, with restaurants, cafés and hotels investing in new screens, projectors and audio systems to enhance the viewing experience for customers.
Growing appetite for larger screens
Vic Chen, Business Manager at TCL in Dubai, said the World Cup had significantly increased demand for television screens, especially larger models.
He noted that screens measuring 75 inches and above have been particularly popular among consumers seeking an enhanced match-viewing experience.
According to retailers, the combination of tournament enthusiasm, promotional offers and increased spending by both consumers and businesses has made the World Cup one of the strongest periods for electronics sales this year.
