DMCC says emirate achieved double record in 2025 with 359.5 million carats traded and diamond market value exceeding AED 153 billion

Dubai: Dubai’s diamond trade reached a record US$41.7 billion (AED153.14 billion) in 2025, surpassing the previous high of US$40.9 billion recorded in 2011, according to data released by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and Dubai Customs.

The emirate also recorded a historic high in trade volume, with 359.5 million carats traded during the year, representing annual growth of 42.5 percent. It marks the first time that Dubai has achieved record highs in both the value and volume of diamond trade in the same year.

The total value of diamond trade across all categories increased by 16.2 percent, rising from US$35.8 billion in 2024 to US$41.7 billion in 2025, an increase of US$5.8 billion in a single year.

The coloured gemstone sector also delivered strong growth, with trade reaching a record US$1.1 billion (AED4.04 billion) in 2025, up 48 percent year-on-year.

Long-term growth

The latest figures underline the continued expansion of Dubai’s diamond industry. Since 2020, the value of diamond trade through Dubai has increased by 139 percent, while trade volume has doubled.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, said the results reflect the success of Dubai’s long-term strategy to build a globally connected and efficient gemstone trading ecosystem.

“The latest results for Dubai’s diamond trade reflect the success of a long-term strategy aimed at building the most interconnected, transparent and efficient gemstone ecosystem in the world,” he said.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the volume of diamond trade through Dubai has doubled, while its value has increased by nearly 140 percent.”

Bin Sulayem added that the value of trade in polished natural diamonds alone has increased by 246 percent since 2020, helping Dubai strengthen its position as a preferred destination for producers, manufacturers, traders and retailers across the global industry.

Natural diamonds drive growth

Natural diamonds remained the dominant segment of the market in 2025, accounting for 95.8 percent of the total value of diamond trade.

The value of natural diamond trade reached US$39.9 billion (AED146.43 billion) during the year.

Trade in rough natural diamonds reached 205.2 million carats, making it the second-highest volume ever recorded and representing growth of nearly 34 percent compared with 2024.

The value of polished natural diamond trade climbed to US$18.7 billion, an increase of nearly 25 percent year-on-year.

DMCC noted that despite growth in synthetic diamonds and coloured gemstones, natural diamonds remain the cornerstone of Dubai’s diamond market and the key driver of future growth.

Expanding ecosystem

The results also highlighted the growing diversity of Dubai’s gemstone sector.

Coloured gemstone trade reached a record level, supported by a 68.8 percent increase in imports and 33.5 percent growth in re-exports.

Meanwhile, synthetic and laboratory-grown diamonds continued to expand their share of the market and now account for approximately 39 percent of total diamond trade volume by carat weight.

DMCC operates the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), the region’s largest diamond auction and tender facility and one of the world’s largest diamond trading communities.

The centre said its integrated ecosystem, which includes logistics services, customs facilities, finance, grading services and specialised infrastructure, continues to strengthen Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading global diamond trading hubs.
