Global fintech giant Revolut has revealed that customers in the UAE will initially gain access to its core payments and multi-currency platform when it launches locally, with additional financial products expected to be rolled out as the company expands.
The company, which recently secured licences from the Central Bank of the UAE, said its immediate priority is delivering a locally tailored proposition before introducing its broader suite of services.
Once live, UAE customers will be able to access Revolut’s global financial platform through a single app, allowing them to hold and manage multiple currencies, make payments using both physical and virtual cards, and send money domestically and internationally.
“As with any new market, our priority is to ensure we deliver the right customer experience from day one while meeting all local regulatory requirements,” the company spokesman told Arabian Business. “We will share more details about our product plans in due course.”
The approach suggests Revolut will not replicate its UK offering in full from launch, where customers have access to a wide range of services including savings, investments, insurance, budgeting tools and cryptocurrency trading.
Instead, the fintech giant said its UAE proposition will be designed specifically for the local market while drawing on capabilities developed across its international operations.
Local needs
“As we prepare for launch, our focus remains on building a local proposition that reflects the needs of customers in the UAE while leveraging the experience and capabilities we have developed across multiple international markets,” the company said.
The UAE’s digital banking and fintech landscape has become increasingly competitive, with both homegrown players and international firms targeting a rapidly growing market for digital financial services.
However, Revolut believes its global reach and integrated platform distinguish it from existing providers.
The company said more than 75 million customers worldwide currently use Revolut to manage various aspects of their financial lives, from everyday spending and payments to international money transfers and savings.
It argues that bringing multiple financial services together within a single application offers customers a simpler alternative to using multiple banking and payment platforms, particularly for individuals who frequently travel or transact across borders.
While Revolut has ambitions to expand beyond retail banking, businesses will not be its initial focus in the UAE.
The company said it is prioritising services for individual customers ahead of launch but sees significant long-term opportunities to support businesses and SMEs, particularly those with international operations, cross-border payment requirements and global expansion plans.
The UAE launch also represents the first step in Revolut’s wider Gulf expansion strategy, although the company declined to provide timelines for entering additional GCC markets.
“Revolut continues to explore opportunities for growth in new markets as part of our mission to bring the Revolut app to customers around the world,” the company said.
For now, its attention remains firmly on the UAE, where it is building its local offering following regulatory approval from the Central Bank.
The launch will mark one of the most closely watched fintech entries into the UAE market, with Revolut seeking to capitalise on rising demand for digital-first banking services and cross-border financial products among the country’s internationally connected population.
